Woody's 4-string American Fender Precision Bass page

This is a 1995 US-made guitar is dressed out after an
American Vintage Series 1962 Fender PBass.
In 2011, I installed an
N-Tune Onboard digital guitar tuner onto my
Fender
American-Made Precision Bass Guitar (below)
There was not enough room under the PBass pickguard for the 9-volt battery.
I expect to route out a space and relocate the battery beneath it as time
permits.
Currently, the battery holder (supplied with the N-Tune) is velcroed onto the
pickguard
and black electrical tape covers the top of the battery to lessen the visual
impact.

DATING
MY FENDER PRECISION BASS
While the serial number (N5.....) indicates a
1995 bass,
The date stamp on the base of the neck shows April 1, 1995
which is confirmed by the serial number on the neck.
So the neck officially dates to April 1, 1995
The body dates (with black stamp) to February 17, 1995
The body dates (with green stamp) to February 28, 1995
On the body neck area is a numeric of 8596. Does anyone know what that is?
The POT (potentiometer) code (see above) on the original volume control was R1379442.
This says that the POT was produced by CTS late in
1994 during the 42nd-week,
a few months before the guitar was built.
STRINGS ON MY 4-string FENDER PRECISION BASS
For years I have used GHS 55-105 (Set 3050 Regular)
Precision Flatwound (Long Scale Plus) series strings
us$24 from JustStrings.com
Early in 2011, I tried a set of D`Addario ECB81 XL Flatwound strings strings
us$36 from Guitar
Center
but took them off after about a month and went back to the GHS.
The GHS are us$10 less for twice the string (in my humble opinion, of course).
AESTHETICS
I prefer the string and bridge covers as I
believe they enhance appearance while reducing skin-scrapes when playing.
It adds diversity to the playing-style, as well, by allowing occasional use of a pick
for some music styles
while bracing the playing hand on the center string cover.
