A COMPLETELY GUTTED AND REBUILT GUITAR
This instrument has gone through a complete metamorphosis.
The only parts that are original are the neck and the body.
New bone nut, new US-made tremolo plate and bar
All electronics and hardware components have been replaced.
Where ever possible, all newly installed components have been made in the United States
with the specific goal of feeding American families by purchasing USA products.
The original Volume and Tone controls, the original pickup switches
and indeed the pickups themselves have all been replaced.
On-board enhanced electronics include:
- An Artec EX3 tone expander board (three way switch on the pick guard) enhancing bass/treble, providing flat across frequency response or enhancing mids (bell-shaped)
- An Artec QDD-2 overdrive (distortion) circuit providing bypass and four levels of overdrive/distortion
- A Neovin Pre-1 adjustable pre-amp offering up to +12 db of gain
The original "bass Strangle switch" has been moved to a toggle switch also on the pick guard.
Also enhanced it now offers high and low pass filtering (strangle treble or strangle bass).
An adjustable passive tone-control pot sits next to the two pick guard mounted tone switches.
Enhanced JBE-series custom pickups are wired so that they can be
switched to perform in either the original parallel configuration
OR now can be switched to perform into a serial configuration as well.
A toggle Off-Bypass-Passive/On-Active switch is mounted between
the volume (now also sporting an on-board "N-Tune" guitar tuner)
and the distortion control (where the Tone control originally sat).
The output jack was removed from the front panel to make room for the onboard pre-amplifier now coming out the bottom side of instrument.
In 2017, I added an N-Tune onboard digital guitar tuner onto my Bass VI.
It is really nice to always have a good tuner right handy.
If the string is
"in tune" it shows the note and a green LED.
If the string is sharp or flat it shows the note and a sharp or flat red LED
HARD CASE FOR THE 6-string FENDER BASS VI
Originally I had ordered the "proper" Bass VI case for this guitar.
When it arrived, however, it was not wide enough!
I returned it and ordered a case from Sweetwater that would fit a Fender Jazz bass.
When this case arrived I found that the Bass VI fit just fine.
STRINGING THE 6-string FENDER BASS VI
Selections of strings for six-string series bass guitars is somewhat limited.
Most often Bass VI strings need to be ordered from Internet suppliers as
they are often not stocked in standard music stores due to limited demand.
I have settled on the "LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass 767-6F" series strings
as pictured here and have no regrets.
30" Scale / 35.5" String Winding Length.
String Gauges: .026, .035, .044, .056, .075, .095
Available in 5 different constructions:
Set 767-6F Stainless Steel Flat Wound

original pickups were changed out in favor of Joe Barden Engineering (JBE)
series units for this instrument.
Information is found on their web page at:
AND AMERICAN-MADE COMPONENTS
The original neck and body of this rig were built and sold under the Fender Squier label.
All original Indonesia-built components (except the neck and body)
were completely stripped off the instrument and offered for sale on eBay as stray parts.
Where ever they could be found, American-made Fender components were ordered and installed.
Where ever they could be found, American-made switches and components were ordered and installed.
Unfortunately, some parts are not presently made in the United States such as the Roland GK3 pickup.
I ordered and installed all new Kluson tuners as the ads and original boxes said nothing of being made overseas.
While they are presently installed, I have since found that there are some smaller manufacturers making tuners in the States.
Over time I expect to change out the tuners for American-made units.
An American-made Fender Bass VI guitar is shown in the
center (red) of this vintage Fender guitar advertisement.
