2008 Ford F350
6.4
Litre Power Stroke diesel Overall average
14 MPG
The 2008 Ford F350 truck has proven to be an amazing tool over the 2006 that I previously owned (see below)
In the 34,000 miles that I have driven this truck, there have been no problems. I have averaged about 15 miles-per-gallon highway, which is not as good as I had hoped. The best I have gotten is about 17 MPG and the worst about 13 MPG. Driving 65 MPH instead of 75 MPH does seem to make a big difference, although getting passed by everyone is psychologically tough to do.
The layout of the dashboard makes for easy vision. The built-in step on the tailgate is a tremendous asset. The larger convex mirrors are terrific.
I have added a backup camera (display is a clip over the rear view mirror LCD flat panel, tough to see in the daytime but great at night).
Improvements?
Nothing really too serious...
1. Add a handle top center roof of the passenger doors to assist access for
older persons
2. Change the color of the dashboard gear shift position indicator (P, R, N, D) from RED to something else (blue, green, anything but red)... even after over 34k miles, glancing over the dashboard I see the red light (indicating that I am in DRIVE), sometimes am alarmed and mistake it for an idiot light!
3. Heated backs of the sets, heated steering wheel
4. Four-wheel-drive switch is hard to see/access when distracted by snow and ice.
5. The standard-issue Continental city tires don't perform all that well in the country
All-in-all
the 2008 Ford F350 is an amazing resource and I love to drive it
(wish I could
afford diesel)
2006 Ford F350
6.0
Power Stroke diesel
Overall,
this truck was terrible and I was glad to be rid of it.
Although it was dependable (I never had any mechanical problems), the ride was
horrid and the engine was way too loud.
I was so thrilled to trade it away, I bought the 2008 as soon as I read about it in Diesel magazine without seeing or driving it.
I did like the 2006 interior a bit better than the 2008... more luxurious I believe but not enough to keep it.
1986 Ford F150 (red)
We used this old truck for hauling hay. I used to stand atop the cab to throw hay into the loft of the barn. It had a 6-cylinder engine and was just an old beater.

This truck looked like the red one (above) but is what I drove to work. It was used to haul hay, tools, and equipment. It was sold to the son of a family friend to drive at college.
1991 Ford F250

We owned this truck only a short while. I had bought it to haul hay but it needed too much work so we sold it to someone that had the time and interest to repair it.
